Yes, children do not befriend vegetables easily in their diet. Particularly at the preschool stage when they are more involved in exploring their surroundings, they hardly bother to respond to their hunger cues. A temporary dip in their appetite is what they may experience. After winding up from their playing sessions when they come back home, they want to relish something which they term as ‘tasty’. E.g. packet of chips and wafers. The sight of green veggies may not appeal to their wish list and not even to their taste buds.

Brain development in a Preschooler Brain development commences in children as early as when they are babies. As per researches, early childhood care and experiences are believed to serve as an important prerequisite to a developing brain. It is also wise to reflect on the say, ’we are born with few traits and we acquire some’ in the process to become more informed and learned. A similar process works for our brains and intellect. Human brain is composed of a complex network of neurons that collect information and process it further to yield outputs. The more early these neural pathways are stimulated, the better it facilitates learning as one grows older.

The continuity of learning new skills and improving still better on the developing ones, remains an ongoing process for a growing child. A 5 yr old child who is full of energy displays his strength and capabilities in his own unique way. He likes jumping from the chair to the floor and trying to balance himself on the wooden edges of the sofa. It rather becomes a play and fun activity for him, which he does repeatedly even after being scolded. Hops around, displays a good balance on one foot may be for even more than ten seconds. Some 5 years old children may also learn to skip rope, begin to skate and even take up to swimming

Being able to stand on one foot for a couple of seconds, turning somersaults to being able to catch that bounced ball most of the times, he manages it all. He now runs in a more controlled manner, understanding the dangers or obstacles in his way. Pauses or completely stops while turning to the corners of the room and then continues.

Something is different and even more challenging at age “two”. Well, from experiencing a surge of complex thoughts, emotions to realising their limits for doing a particular thing, these two year olds learn a lot. In the process, parents also get to realize that deviating their attention works better over a strict act of disciplining.

The other day, you were quite ecstatic to see your toddler standing alone without support. Isn’t it? Well, soon you would even find her walking and taking up to running effortlessly by the end of about 20 months.

Falling amidst the process is common, but still geared up to take the steps ahead. Bends down with ease to pick up that small cube of apple, whilst being able to maintain a good balance when sitted. Welcome, to life with your growing one year old.
